Windows

Windows to me are one of the most beautiful things that mankind has produced. They seem to capture the essence of life in a frame of a particular moment. Sitting down by a window means that i can i can think, listen and appreciate the white noise of the world as it relentlessly passes by. To me, there is definitely a connection with appreciation and beauty in the little things in life.

Decompose, Perverse

In this building, i tried to design it such a way as to capture the true meaning of the words decompose and Perverse.

Decomposing involves a process of 'braking down' into its component parts and therefore i tried to capture this in the top level with a series of units falling apart. This was to coincide with Ricky Swallows artwork which appeared to be wasting away in a very natural sense. The building thus appears to be sinking away and drowning into the earth below.

Perverse is word used to describe something that stems to oppose or contradict. Therefore from the curvature of the gallery and abundance of light throughout the space, i wanted to transform this into an area marked by sharp edges and a sense of claustrophobia; a dungeon perhaps. This reflects the artwork by Patricia Piccinini who contradicts human thought through the use of personification.

Arch1101 Session 1

For me, The Louvre is a very interesting building that has inspired me due to it's distinct ability to simply strand the old and the new; each serving to complement each other. The pyramid structures known as Pei's Pyramids serve as a perfect complement and counterpoint to the traditional building. Paul Heyer puts it; "it is a compelling brave concept whose intent is to be neither aggressive nor subservient but to complement through restraint.” This is something I would really like to portray as I learn to become an architect.

This piece was inspired by a friend called Grant Murphy who encouraged me to grab every opportunity that I can, and finding the colour, trust and hope that things can change regardless of what barrier or challenge i am confronted by. Like all artwork, it is this inspiration for me that will always be able to transcend the elements of time.

To me, the most beautiful things are not those that stand out, but rather those that are modest in their own respect and have a sense of tradition and significance; sometimes you never really notice them until you stop and look. In my view, this photograph of a Vespa Scooter depicts that very connection between appreciation and beauty.
